Forced labor will be completely eradicated

The Ministry of Employment and Labor Relations held a roundtable discussion on ensuring decent work in cotton industry in 2019 and tasks for the future in this direction at “Welcome to work” Mono Center.
It was attended by members of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, deputies of the Legislative Chamber, representatives of Cotton Campaign Global Coalition, International Labour Organization, officials of the Ministries of Employment and Labor Relations, Agriculture, employees of Uzbekistan Textile Industry Association, international experts, as well as khokims of districts and cities.
Expected strategic changes in cotton industry, as well as difficulties encountered in implementing the relevant documents at the local level were discussed at the event. In particular, at separate breakout sessions with participation of international experts and specialists of the sphere, views were exchanged on such topics as modernization of cotton industry and its impact on cotton harvest in 2019-2020, countering forced labor in cotton harvest season 2019, legislation and practice, independent monitoring in forced labor in cotton harvest season 2019, results and recommendations.
It was noted that in order to create a positive image of Uzbekistan on the world stage, it is necessary to develop practical cooperation with relevant international organizations with the study of experience of developed countries in protecting rights and interests of forced labor victims. Khokims of districts and cities were given explanations on creating good working conditions for workers in cotton clusters that will be created this year in the regions, and on correct distribution of tasks among farm managers.
