The coming to power of Mirzo Ulugbek in 1409, who made a huge contribution to development of science, ensured further prosperity of Samarkand.

He invited the most advanced mathematicians, astronomers to Samarkand, issued a decree on construction of an observatory. From 1424 to 1428, in the north of Samarkand, under Kuhak upland, an observatory known throughout the world was erected on the banks of Obirakhmat ditch. This area attracts the whole world. In 1964, a museum named after the great scientist was created here. This historical place is one of the objects of cultural heritage, which is visited by tourists with great interest.

“There are about 130 exhibits in our museum. Among the exhibits collected in the museum related to the period of Amir Timur and Mirzo Ulugbek, there is a copy of Sharafiddin Ali Yazdi’s work “Chronicle of Victories”, transcribed on Samarkand paper, earthenware of the 15th century. Copper coins of Ulugbek period are also rare exhibits. In addition, the mockups depicting the ancient appearance of the observatory are of great interest to tourists”, says Avaz Umarov, Director of Mirzo Ulugbek Museum Complex.
