Finds at the Akhsikent Monument
18:27 / 2024-04-01

With the arrival of spring and the beginning of warm days, archaeologists went to the monuments to continue excavations.

At the Akhsikent Monument, located in Turakurgan district of Namangan region, doctoral students, researchers of the National Center of Archeology, together with employees of the Directorate for the Protection and Research of the Archaeological Heritage Site “Akhsikent”, and students of Namangan State University are conducting excavations.

“Akhsikent is a monument rich in unique finds”, says Surat Kubayev, Senior Researcher at the National Center for Archeology. “Even one-hundredth of the sights have not yet been studied”.

During their research, archaeologists discovered underground structures. They are studying the structure found at 11 excavation sites at the 100-hectare archaeological site. The find, built as an arch of mud brick with steps descending from a particular passage, is well preserved.

“Of course, this place should be thoroughly explored”, says archaeologist Shukrullo Nasriddinov, a researcher at the Akhsikent Archaeological Park. “According to preliminary conclusions, the structure was a warehouse for valuable products or food products”.

Once the underground structure is fully explored, its dimensions will be determined.
