The Authorized Person of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights (Ombudsman) and the Representative Office of the United Nations Development Programme in Uzbekistan held a workshop on “Disability inclusion and gender-sensitive communication”.
Ombudsman Feruza Eshmatova noted that the country pays special attention to social support for persons with disabilities, discrimination against them is not allowed, and equal conditions are created.

In 2023, the Ombudsman received 133 applications from persons with disabilities. All appeals were resolved positively, rights were restored. The appeals raised issues of determining the disability group, providing financial assistance, and introducing social benefits. The Ombudsman's report on implementing the Human Rights Convention was submitted to the relevant UN committee.
This year, the “Law Expert” quiz was held to increase the knowledge and interest of children with disabilities in the legal field. The Ombudsman and the Federation of Trade Unions organized the event. 750 students from boarding schools for children with musculoskeletal disorders operating in Tashkent, Fergana regions, and Tashkent city were covered.

The participants discussed the roadmap developed at the Ombudsman’s initiative for adapting to persons with disabilities in closed institutions with limited freedom of movement and the state of its implementation.
The workshop was held in an interactive format. Participants received a lot of helpful information about the rights of persons with disabilities, effective methods of establishing communication with them, gender stereotypes occurring in society and the media, and gender-sensitive methods of communication.
