The Authorized Person of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights (Ombudsman) Feruza Eshmatova met with the Head of the OSCE/ODIHR Election Observation Mission Douglas Wake.

Representatives of the OSCE/ODIHR mission, who visited Uzbekistan to observe the elections of deputies to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis and Local Councils of People’s Deputies, are interested in the norms included in the renewed Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the rights granted to the Ombudsman.

The mission’s representatives were informed about the electoral norms enshrined in the Basic Law of Uzbekistan and the Ombudsman’s powers in the election process.

The Ombudsman’s participation in the election preparation processes, election-related appeals, gender equality issues, and cooperation with civil society institutions were also discussed during the conversation.
