Commissioner of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights (Ombudsman) Feruza Eshmatova met with the Commissioner for Human Rights in Novosibirsk Region Nina Shalabayeva and Commissioner for Human Rights in Sverdlovsk Region Tatiana Merzlyakova.
Activities carried out in Uzbekistan on ensuring the electoral rights of citizens, the organization of elections, as well as open and transparent coverage of the political process, were discussed at the meeting.
It was noted that in recent years, as a result of the improvement of electoral legislation in accordance with international standards, an automated electoral process management system and a unified electronic voter list have been introduced in Uzbekistan. There are extensive opportunities to participate in the elections for labor migrants, students and other compatriots who temporarily reside abroad. Convicted persons serving sentences, but who have not committed a serious crime, are also granted the right to participate in the electoral process.
Feruza Eshmatova noted that special attention at the polling stations is paid to creating conditions for citizens with disabilities.
She also added that separate cabins have been prepared for people with disabilities, ramps at entrances and exits are equipped, stencils for bulletins with Braille, sign language interpreters are working.
