Although 2023 was challenging for agricultural workers due to severe winter weather and sweltering summer days, significant gains were made in increasing food production.
Specialized gardening schools have been established in the regions. Growing melons and watermelons are prevalent.
According to the Statistics Agency of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the volume of exports of fruits and vegetables in 2023 increased by 7.9 percent, in particular:
– plums (dried) amounted to 34 thousand tons;
– grapes – 121 thousand tons;
– grapes (dried) – 52.2 thousand tons;
– peaches – 87.2 thousand tons;
– melons and watermelons – 147.6 thousand tons;
– persimmon – 50.3 thousand tons;
– cherries – 45 thousand tons;
– apricots – 63 thousand tons;
– tomatoes – 54.2 thousand tons;
– mung bean – 148.5 thousand tons;
– onions – 263.8 thousand tons;
– millet – 15.3 thousand tons.
Also, the incomes of almost 700 thousand farmers increased over the year. The number of self-sufficient areas with potatoes, onions, and carrots has increased.
