Tashkent hosts the International Conference “Uzbekistan and China: Advancing mutually beneficial cooperation for the peoples of both countries”, organized by the International Institute for Central Asia and the Embassy of China in Uzbekistan.
The conference is organized to exchange views on the results of the state visit of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to the People’s Republic of China and the prospects for developing a comprehensive strategic partnership between the two states.
The delegation taking part in the event, consisting of representatives of leading analytical institutions in China, visited Syrdarya region to get acquainted with projects successfully implemented through foreign investment.
At the Peng-Sheng Uzbekistan – China joint venture, the delegation got acquainted with the production complex in the industrial park. The joint venture began operating in 2009. The project’s investment potential, which costs $26 million, is $100 million. The number of new jobs exceeded two thousand. Previously, only ceramic tiles were produced here, but now the production of sanitary products, decorative panels, pipes for drip irrigation systems, women’s and men’s shoes, and leather goods are organized. The production area covers 100 hectares. The export geography has been expanded, covering China, the CIS countries and Europe.
In April 2023, the Head of state launched two more projects of this enterprise, the total cost of which was $10 million. The projects aim to produce 40 types of marble products and gelatin from the protein part of the skin that is disposed of as waste.
“Business cooperation with investors from China is actively developing in our region”, says Ilkhom Karimov, head of the Directorate of Syrdarya Free Economic Zone. “Over 70 Chinese companies are successfully conducting their business in Syrdarya region. They have invested billions of dollars and created 5,000 jobs. As a striking example of cooperation, we can name the Peng-Sheng Uzbekistan – China joint venture.
Members of the delegation highly appreciated the mutually interested cooperation between Uzbekistan and China.
