At the Qashqadaryo Regional stage of the contest of “The most exemplary self-governing body of citizens”, the “Hontepa” neighbourhood citizens’ gathering in the town of Qarshi has won.

“The contest created a good opportunity for an experience exchange and for us to learn from each other,” says Ramiz Zohidov, the chairman of the “Hontepa” neighbourhood citizens’ gathering.

The event was held by the regional department of the Mahalla charity public foundation in cooperation with a number of state and public organizations under the slogan of “My life, my destiny – my sacred homeland, my beautiful and unique Uzbekistan”.

It was said at the event that constant attention being paid under the leadership of the country’s President Islam Karimov to improving the work of self-governing bodies is helping to reach such good goals as ensuring a stable social and moral climate in territories and bringing up young people in the spirit of patriotism and respect for national values.

In the lower stages of the contest, 659 self-governing bodies of citizens took part. At the qualifying stage, construction and landscaping work carried out by citizens’ gatherings, particularly results of work that had been done as part of the implementation of the Year of Maternal and Child Health state programme were evaluated on the basis of such principles as legality and fairness.

Results of the work of consultancy centres for helping to develop entrepreneurship, parents’ university and family - neighbourhood – educational establishment cooperation were studied in detail. Participants’ general attitude towards life, their activeness in society’s public and political life and their political and legal awareness were tested.

The “Navruz” neighbourhood citizens’ gathering in Koson District took second place, and the “Mughlon” village citizens’ gathering in Kasbi District took third place.

As part of the event, there was an exhibition of photo albums relating to the work of neighbourhoods, placards, items of craftsmanship and national clothes.
