Exhibition of paintings by Russian artists
10:00 / 2024-05-28

An exhibition of paintings by Russian artists stored in the Directorate of Art Exhibitions collections has been organized in the Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan gallery.

The exhibition “Russian Artists in the Fine Arts of Uzbekistan” includes works by Russian-born brush masters whose work and life paths are closely connected to Uzbekistan.

The evolution of fine art in Uzbekistan during the late 19th and early 20th centuries is deeply rooted in the contributions of Russian artists. P. Benkov and A. Volkov imparted their artistic wisdom to young Uzbek painters in Samarkand and Tashkent schools. In the 1950s, the first graduates of the Leningrad Academy of Arts, R. Akhmedov, N. Kuzibayev, M Saidov, T. Oganesov, and others, who were also teachers at the Tashkent State Theater and Art Institute, trained several generations of young artists.

A significant contribution to the development of the Uzbek national art school was made by masters of the brush who were born in Uzbekistan or moved to the country during the Second World War. Among them are folk artists of Uzbekistan: A. Nikolayev (Usto Mumin), N. Kashina, Z. Kovalevskaya, M. Arinin, K. Bogodukhov, E. Melnikov, Y. Taldykin, N. Pudovkin, G. Tkachev, V. Kovinin, A. Perov, G. Chernukhin and others. Most of their works were repeatedly exhibited abroad and became an integral part of the fine arts of Uzbekistan.
