An exhibition of archaeological finds from the Emirate of Sharjah has opened at the art residence of the “Silk Road” International University of Tourism and Cultural Heritage in Samarkand.
At the opening of the exhibition, the Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Aziz Abdukhakimov, and the Executive Chairman of the Department of Government Relations of the Emirate of Sharjah, Sheikh Fahim Bin Sultan Bin Khalid Al Qasimi, noted that in recent years, both trade, economic and cultural connections are developing.
“Sharjah has an ancient history, many exhibits were found there”, Mr. Abdukhakimov said. “Notably, 80 percent of these finds were exhibited for the first time in Uzbekistan. You can see more than 170 artifacts dating back to the history of Arabia and Central Asia and the Neolithic and Islamic periods of the Emirate of Sharjah”.
Sheikh Fahim Bin Sultan Bin Khalid Al Qasimi emphasized that the history and culture of Uzbekistan and the United Arab Emirates are very close.
According to the Sharjah Archaeology Authority, such an exhibition was previously organized at a high level in Japan, Spain, and Belgium. In 2020, the National Museum of Archaeology of Lisbon opened the “Archaeology of Sharjah” exhibition, which received high recognition from the Portuguese Association of Museology.
The Mleiha archaeological site in Sharjah contains a palace, fortifications, houses, and graves of people and animals. The total area of the finds is 3 kilometers. Near Mleiha, archaeologists also discovered objects made of gold, silver, bronze, iron, ivory, alabaster, and glass. Apparently, the creators of these objects were influenced by ancient Egyptian, Greek, Roman, Parthian, Central Asian, and Indian cultures.
The exhibition will run until May 22.
