An enlightenment event has been held in Samarqand at the initiative of the city’s department for the provision of methodological support for establishments of public education. This event was devoted to the popularization of reading and to the raising of book-reading culture. The event was conducted in order to explain to people, especially young people, tasks arising from a Presidential decree dated 12 January 2017 “On establishing a commission for the popularization of reading and the raising of book-reading culture and for the development of the system of the publication and distribution of books” and the essence and significance of this document.
The enlightenment event was attended by representatives of state and public organizations and creative workers.
“The raising of young people’s book-reading culture and the popularization of reading among them are of importance to enriching our children’s morals and to protecting them from the influence of various sorts of alien ideas. People who love books and who learn about the world through books steer clear of evil. They think only of goodness. And so we, parents and teachers, should bring up children to love books and set a personal example,” says poetess Hosiyat Bobomurodova.
During the event, children of pre-school day care establishments and general education schools as well as members of the Barkamol Avlod (harmoniously developed generation) children’s club in the city of Samarqand read out poems and stories about books. Presentations of books were given in the form of open lessons.
Educational establishments, students and their parents were given proper rewards for efforts in such areas as “The best school of book lovers” and “Family of book lovers”. New collections of books were presented to them.
