Tashkent hosted the 20th Meeting of the Uzbekistan – European Union Sub-Committee on Justice and Home Affairs, Human Rights and Related Issues.

The meeting was attended by the Deputy Head of the Department for Supervision of the Implementation of Legislation in the Social Sphere, B. Akhmedov, and the Prosecutor of the Department for the Protection of Citizens' Rights and Freedoms, Sh. Tukhtashova, on behalf of the Prosecutor General's Office.

Issues of cooperation with the European Union representatives at multilateral forums in gender equality and women’s rights, human rights, and the rule of law, as well as activities carried out within the framework of the development of the penitentiary system, prevention of torture, protection of the rights of media and civil society representatives and ensuring freedom of religion and belief were discussed. 

Representatives of the European Union highly appreciated human rights activities carried out in Uzbekistan and put forward proposals for continuing reforms and cooperation in this direction.
