EU Green Week 2023
19:25 / 2023-06-07

On June 6-7, Brussels hosted various events as part of the EU Green Week 2023.

The event aims to preserve environmental stability and biodiversity, exchange experience, and strengthen cooperation, organizational and legal norms. It was attended by specialists from 30 countries.

President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen delivered a welcoming speech. She drew attention to the significance of the events and noted how important it is to protect the environment and maintain an ecological balance.

Commissioner for the Environment, Oceans and Fisheries at the European Commission Virginijus Sinkevičius, Minister for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge of Spain Teresa Ribera, and others focused on the latest developments in the sphere.

“Last year, for the very first time in history, the EU generated more electricity from sun and wind than from gas”, President Ursula von der Leyen said. – And we’re on track to double the deployment of renewable energy this year again. We are leaving the throw-away culture behind, and we are entering a circular economy that is based on innovation. I know there’s still a long way to go. And climate and environmental disasters are happening all around us. But so are the solutions, thanks to all of you who believe that transformative change is necessary and possible. Today, we are making a difference together.

If earlier only the countries of the European Union participated in the Green Week events, this time, representatives of the Central Asian countries are among the participants.

“Ecology is a global issue”, says Makhbuba Abdulloyeva, an employee of Tajikistan representation in the European Union. – This year, journalists from Central Asian countries are invited to the events, which will contribute to familiarization with the activities of the European Union in other countries. Central Asia needs to study foreign experience in solving problems of the environment and ecology. Within the framework of the event, sessions were organized in which experts spoke about the work carried out in their countries in this direction.

In recent years, Uzbekistan has also paid great attention to protecting nature and preserving environmental stability and biodiversity. The necessary organizational and legal base has been created. The Basic Law of the country stipulates that the land, its minerals, waters, flora and fauna, other natural resources shall constitute the national wealth and shall be rationally used and protected by the state.

Green Week continues.
