EU delegation’s visit to Karakalpakstan continues

The visit of the delegation of the European Union, heads and members of the diplomatic missions of the EU Member States to the Republic of Karakalpakstan continues.

Chairman of the Jokargy Kenes of the Republic of Karakalpakstan M. Kamalov received the members of the delegation. He informed about the projects implemented at the initiative of the President within the framework of the UN Multi-Partner Human Security Trust Fund for the Aral Sea Region and aimed at mitigating the consequences of the Aral Sea ecological crisis.

Head of the European Union Delegation, Ambassador Charlotte Adrian thanked for the warm welcome and highly appreciated the work carried out to mitigate the consequences of the environmental crisis. As it was noted, the European Union supports initiatives aimed at the rehabilitation of crisis regions in Uzbekistan. Among them is the agro-ecotourism project of the Government of Uzbekistan “My garden in the Aral Sea” by planting trees adapted to the climatic conditions of the region in the Aralkum desert and nearby settlements of Karakalpakstan.

The European Union and the EU Member States support Uzbekistan in all efforts to prevent environmental degradation. The EU has allocated more than five million euros to the UN Multi-Partner Human Security Trust Fund for the Aral Sea Region.

The delegation visited the Karakalpak State University named after Berdakh, Takhtakupir district and got acquainted with the projects implemented within the framework of the UN Multi-Partner Human Security Trust Fund for the Aral Sea Region.
