Elmurod Palvan Prize Winner of World Championship
Tashkent has hosted the freestyle, Greco-Roman and women’s wrestling world championship among adults.
More than 800 athletes from over 100 countries fought for victory in 24 weight categories in the prestigious competitions organized by the United World Wrestling (UWW), the Ministry for Culture and Sports of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the National Olympic Committee and the Association of Sport Wrestling of Uzbekistan.
For a week, sports fans observed the uncompromising struggle of the world’s strongest athletes. The competitions took place in the Republican Gymnastics Specialized Children’s and Youth’s Sports School of Olympic Reserve, and the participation of victors and prize winners of continental and global championships, Asian and Olympic Games afforded a particular interest in them.
A reporting-elections congress of the United World Wrestling (UWW) took place within the championship. During the event, participants adopted the new Constitution, Charter, Anti-Doping Regulations and other documents of the organization, and the 2014-2016 budget as well as plans for future got approved.
“I extend my deep gratefulness to the leadership of Uzbekistan for a high level of organization of the championship,” says UWW President Nenad Lalovic. “The Tashkent championship presented all the participants and sports fans with unforgettable moments that will be stamped in the memory forever. The organization of the championship at a high level is suggestive of the development of sports in this country, in particular of the freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling included in the Program of the Olympics. It is indicative also of the necessary environment created for this, the availability of infrastructure for going in for sports and the rich experience in the arrangement of any wide-scale events.”
Under the leadership of President Islam Karimov, the development of sports – the most crucial factor in the physical and moral upbringing of the young generation – has turned into a nationwide movement. In this process a special emphasis is placed on the extensive popularization of sports included in the Olympics program, on the training and comprehensive support for athletes capable of properly upholding the honor of the Motherland in the international arenas.
This is confirmed by the special acknowledgement of the high level of organization of the world championship in Tashkent by the officials of UWW, foreign specialists, coaches and athletes.
Elmurod Tasmurodov, who took part in the wrestlers’ competition in the weight category of under 59 kilograms (Greco-Roman wrestling) on the last day of the tournament for the bronze medal, beat the Cuban Ismoil Borrero and thus came third.
“Every athlete dreams of rising to the podium of prestigious competitions,” says the prize winner of the championship Elmurod Tasmurodov. “I am glad to have won in the world championship that has taken place in our capital city. At each competition I express gratitude to the sports fans supporting me. The opportunity to demonstrate our potential in the sports arenas is the end result of the President’s attention and care for athletes.”
