Electoral legislation through the prism of judicial and legal reforms

First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan R. Makhmudova received a delegation of observers led by Eoghan Murphy, Head of the mission of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights to monitor the Presidential elections of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The guests were provided with detailed information about the main directions and significance of judicial and legal reforms carried out in Uzbekistan, measures taken in the country to strengthen the legislative base of the judicial and legal sphere, radically improve the structure and efficiency of the judicial system, ensure transparency and openness of the courts.

Members of the delegation were informed in detail about the electoral legislation of the country, in particular, the procedure and timing of consideration of complaints against decisions of election commissions.

It was noted that the national legislation establishes both administrative responsibility for offenses in organizing and conducting elections and referendums, and criminal liability for violating the law in organizing, conducting elections or referendums and obstructing the exercise of the right to vote or the powers of authorized persons.

The parties also discussed other issues of mutual interest.
