A seminar in Andijan has served to discuss issues related to providing methodological and information-consultation assistance to nongovernmental nonprofit organizations (NNOs) and other institutions of civil society when elaborating socially important projects. The event participants also deliberated on uplifting the awareness of NNOs on government-backed fellowship contests.

The seminar was attended by representatives of the Public Fund for the Support of Nongovernmental Nonprofit Organizations and Other Institutions of Civil Society under the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, regional justice departments, healthcare, nongovernmental nonprofit organizations of the region as well as mass media. Special significance was attached at the occasion to providing support for the activities of NNOs and other civil society institutions within the frameworks of public grants, along with the results of their interaction with government and management bodies.

As a result of the democratic reforms spearheaded under the leadership of the President of our country, scales and volumes of financial support for socially important projects of NNOs and mass media in the form of subsidies and public fellowships have been expanding from one year to another. The principal objective sought by the government grants is to elevate the activeness of nongovernmental nonprofit organizations in the formation of civil society and bolster their participation in addressing social issues.

The seminar participants were presented with reports covering such topics as “The role of social partnership in raising the activeness of NNOs and other institutions of civil society, law consciousness and culture of the population”, “Principal dimensions of the partnership of the state and NNOs in boosting the medical and ecological culture of the population, in popularizing the healthy lifestyle”, “Social partnership in the protection of environment, rational use of natural resources and conduct of ecological control in the region.”

“To date, the Fund has assigned public grants in the volume of 613 million soums for financing the projects of fifty NNOs and other institutions of civil society of the province,” says Abdijalil Turaev, director of the Public Fund for the Support of Nongovernmental Nonprofit Organizations and Other Institutions of Civil Society under the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan. “These grants play an important role in supporting the activities of organizations, in securing their energetic participation in tackling socially important problems, in consolidating cooperation with government bodies.”

At the seminar, specialists provided with essential advices and recommendations pertaining to the participation in fellowship competitions announced this year as well as to the elaboration and presentation of projects.
