ECO member states support interregional transport corridors expansion

Member states of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) have expressed support for the expansion of transport corridors by creating road and rail links Pakistan – Afghanistan – Central Asia, Iran – Afghanistan – Central Asia and Iran – Turkmenistan – Central Asia.

According to the Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan, this was noted at a virtual meeting of relevant agencies of the ECO member states, on December 15. Uzbekistan delegation was represented by the Acting Minister Ilkhom Mahkamov and his deputy Davron Dehkanov.

The issue of approving the ECO’s practical recommendations on simplifying border procedures in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic was also discussed at the meeting.

Reports from the heads of transport organizations of the ECO member states on enhancing cooperation in overcoming the difficulties caused by the epidemiological situation were heard.

Following the meeting, a Joint Declaration of the Ministers of Transport of the ECO member states was adopted.
