EBRD implements 14 projects in Uzbekistan

Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan Jamshid Khodjayev received Managing Director of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) for Central Asia Zsuzsanna Hargitai and Head of the EBRD Representative Office in Uzbekistan Alkis Drakinos.

Representatives of the bank highly appreciated the effectiveness of socio-economic transformations in Uzbekistan, expressed their intention to continue financial and technical support for modernization processes in the energy, infrastructure development, irrigation.

The EBRD is actively involved in the process of implementing reforms in Uzbekistan aimed at improving housing and communal services, energy and water supply. Since 2018, the EBRD has signed agreements with Uzbekistan on 14 projects. In addition, the portfolio of new investment projects consists of seven projects worth $724 million.

Interest was expressed in promoting reforms to strengthen the institutional structure of the irrigation sector of Uzbekistan, including financing the project “Modernization of 118 pumping stations in Andijan, Namangan and Fergana regions”, worth $200 million. An agreement was reached to sign a Memorandum of Understanding on the joint implementation of this project.

Following the meeting, the parties noted the need for deepening further cooperation within the framework of quality implementation of current projects and the development of new areas of strategic partnership.
