In Surkhondaryo Region, southern Uzbekistan, more than three thousand voters have used their right specified in the country’s legislation and voted early.

Article 31 of the law “On elections of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan” gives people the right to vote early. This makes it possible for those who cannot be in their place of residence on election day to freely express their will by voting early on the eve of this important socio-political process.

“Our national legislation specifies that early voting begins 10 days before election day and is stopped one day before the elections. Therefore, by a decision of the district electoral commission for the elections of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, a time frame was set for early voting, and voters, observers and mass media representatives were informed about it, ” says Ch.Qurbonov, deputy chairman of Surkhondaryo district electoral commission No 9.

In Denov District, more than 400 citizens have voted early.

“12 people living in the Chin neighbourhood within the territory of our precinct are going to other regions of our country and to foreign counties. And so they applied to vote early. The procedure for early voting was explained to them, and adequate conditions were created within our national legislation for them to vote,” says the chairman of precinct electoral commission No 561, E.Muhammadiyev.

In Jarqorqhon District, more than 250 voters have expressed their will early for the Motherland’s future.

“Before election day, I am going to the capital city for qualification upgrade training. Therefore, I came to polling station No 287 in the territory where I live and spoke to members of the commission. I followed the relevant procedure and voted for the candidate of my choice. Such opportunities created for people to vote in elections are indeed proof that a law-governed democratic state and a strong civil society are being built in our country,” says T.Ibrohimov, a doctor living in the Ozbekiston neighbourhood of Jarqorqhon District.
