The President of the German-Uzbek Friendship Society, Dr. Colin Dürkop, commented on the results of the nationwide referendum held on April 30 in Uzbekistan and the initiation of snap presidential elections by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev:
– Germany is watching with great interest the comprehensive transformation of Uzbekistan. Thus, a momentous event has recently taken place in Uzbekistan – a referendum held as part of constitutional reforms. It showed how much the Uzbekistan people’s political consciousness, legal culture, and worldview have increased in recent years. With this historic choice, the Uzbekistan people once again demonstrated their high confidence and full support for the reforms launched in the country six years ago. Thus, the citizens’ decision has laid a solid foundation for further sustainable Uzbek statehood and economic development.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted that the renewed Constitution of the country takes into account the interests of all segments of the population, the active participation of citizens in its development, as well as its adoption by referendum, indicates that the people of Uzbekistan are the real author of the amendments and additions to the Basic Law. In addition, the Head of Uzbekistan stressed that the most important thing is that the priority task will be new opportunities for raising youth policy to a new level, developing education and upbringing, science, culture, and sports.
Youth – the country’s future expects more from society and the state, and in this regard, the renewed Constitution is designed to reflect these development factors. The same principle applies to investment policy, the environmental agenda, and political, social, and economic change.
