The Overseas Development Institute in London hosted a meeting between the Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov and UK experts.
According to the Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade (MIFT), the meeting was attended by representatives of the analytical centers Chatham House, Prism and Bourse & Bazaar Foundation, the International Institute for Strategic Studies, the Agency for Strategic Communications “Belgrave Europe”, the law firm Dentons, the Cambridge Central Asia Forum, the public organization Henry Jacksons Society, as well as the UN Resident Coordinator in Uzbekistan Roli Asthana.
The parties discussed the current state and prospects for the political and socio-economic development of Uzbekistan, as well as the progress achieved in building a civil society, improving the legal environment, economic development and strengthening the country’s external relations at the regional and global levels.
Experts noted the important role of Uzbekistan in building good neighborly relations in Central Asia, whose countries have been consistently developing intra-regional political, economic, transport, cultural and humanitarian partnerships in recent years.
In the context of the meeting, the participants also discussed constitutional reform in Uzbekistan. Opinions were voiced that the updated Constitution would create a legal basis in Uzbekistan for the long-term development of the country, taking into account key national priorities, as well as improving the efficiency of the public administration system.
