On June 19, 2019, a regular meeting of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis was held. The agenda of the meeting included important issues related to socio-political, socio-economic life of the country.

Deputies comprehensively discussed the priority tasks arising from the speeches of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev at the SCO Council of Heads of State session held on June 13-14 this year, in Bishkek city (Kyrgyz Republic) and at the Fifth Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia, in Dushanbe city (Republic of Tajikistan).

Representatives of the Legislative Chamber noted that the speeches of the President of the country at the summits in the cities of Bishkek and Dushanbe, as well as important ideas and initiatives forwarded by him, were met with great interest not only by the participants of the summit, but also by the world community. The idea initiated by the President of Uzbekistan of working-out the SCO Development Concept attracted the attention. In particular, the expediency of determining, based on five priority criteria, the main areas of mutually beneficial cooperation within the framework of the SCO was emphasized. Today, for the SCO member states, on the one hand, it is important to maintain a coherent security policy, on the other hand to create favorable conditions for sustainable development and prosperity of our states. In general, the adoption of the Program for Development of Interregional Cooperation on the basis of the Bishkek Summit based on the proposal of the President of Uzbekistan is assessed as significant news.

At the meeting, the tasks arising from the speech of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev at Dushanbe Summit were comprehensively discussed. Deputies fully supported the important initiatives of the Head of the state, forwarded at the summit, aimed at strengthening peace in participating countries, uniting efforts to stimulate socio-economic development. The expression by the Head of the state of the readiness of Uzbekistan to become a coordinator of cooperation in science and education, cultural and humanitarian area, the proposal to establish a systemic dialogue on strengthening interreligious harmony, mutual enrichment of enlightenment and cultures were highly appreciated by representatives of the parliament.

At the meeting, deputies and members of factions of political parties fully supported the speeches of the President of Uzbekistan at Bishkek and Dushanbe summits, as well as the ideas and initiatives forwarded by him. Tasks arising from these speeches have been outlined.

Deputies decided to convey the essence and importance of the initiatives of the Head of the state to people during meetings with voters at places.

Committees of the Legislative Chamber were recommended to hold scientific and practical conferences on “The results of the SCO Bishkek Summit in the view of the parliament”.

The need was noted for implementing the agreements reached in the national legislation, further improving the existing legislation, as well as paying special attention to the implementation of these agreements under parliamentary control.

Priority areas, specific measures facing the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis following the Bishkek and Dushanbe summits regarding ideas and initiatives of the President of Uzbekistan, issues of expanding relations between the SCO member states, further development of multilateral cooperation in politics, economics, security, as well as issues of international and regional importance were identified at the meeting.

As reported by the Press Service of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, at the meeting, other issues included in the powers of the lower house of parliament were considered, relevant resolutions were adopted.
