On May 4, a meeting of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis was held. The participants considered and adopted the draft law “On introducing amendments and addenda to the Election Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan”.
It was emphasized that an analysis of the current electoral legislation reveals certain unresolved issues, including those related to holding meetings with voters and complaints about actions and decisions of election commissions. Based on this, it is planned to introduce changes and additions to 11 articles of the Election Code.
It was noted that during the development of the draft law, the recommendations of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) were taken into account. The code has been enriched with norms that meet democratic principles that have not yet been regulated. In particular, the draft law states that complaints about the actions and decisions of election commissions will be considered only in court, and the District Election Commission for Presidential Elections will consist of 11-18 members.
