Tashkent hosted an International Conference on “Sustainable development of society in the context of demographic changes: national and foreign experience”.
The event, organized by the Senate of the Oliy Majlis and the representative office of the UNFPA, the Research Institute “Family and Women”, was attended by more than 40 representatives of parliaments and governments from almost 20 countries.
Chairperson of the Senate Tanzila Narbayeva noted that Uzbekistan has established close cooperation with all UN agencies.
It was noted that the issues raised in the video message by UNFPA Executive Director Natalia Kanem and the conclusions arising from them will help ensure sustainable demographic growth.

The participants focused on creating economic opportunities for sustainable demographic development. In particular, the best practices of providing the population with housing, providing labor rights and freedoms to workers, and developing social partnership were discussed.
Development of human capital, strengthening social protection of the population, and the consistent continuation of reforms in education and healthcare were considered.
Views were exchanged on evidence-based experiences of successful strategies to develop effective and inclusive solutions.
