The state academic ensemble was established in 1937 as the first professional folk dancing company in the world. Its founder is an outstanding Russian ballet-master and choreographer Igor Moiseyev. Igor Moiseyev gathered together a core of approximately forty dancers in a studio. The nascent company included the very best dancers from amateur companies across the country, and a handful of professional ballet dancers from the Bolshoi School and other classical companies. In the revival of unique examples of dance art, the expected results were given by creative consultations with musicians, folklorists, and historians. Effective use of classical music, acting talent, dramaturgy and scenography in revealing the importance of choreographic programs became another achievement of the collective.
