As part of cooperation with South Korea, a delegation led by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Korea Choo Kyung-ho arrived at the Research and Production Association for the Production of Rare Metals and Hard Alloys.
The guests got acquainted with the production process in the assembly shops, types of products, and activities of the Uzbekistan – Korea Scientific and Technological Center and talked with employees of the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology KITECH via videoconference.
Last December, the National Assembly of Korea decided to allocate a grant of 15 billion won (about $12 million) to the Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Company under the ODI program.
The program is planned to be implemented in 2023-2027. Its primary goal is the commercialization of scientific research results. Also, as part of the program, 50 specialists from the plant will exchange experience with leading Korean companies and research institutes. The program includes the processing of rare metals and their extraction in pure form for the semiconductor industry, the design of carbide equipment with hard barrier coatings, and the launch of the production of oxygen-free copper products for the semiconductor industry.
As part of this grant, a production and experimental workshop was created at the Uzbekistan – Korea Scientific and Technological Center of the Research and Production Association for the Production of Rare Metals and Hard Alloys. Modern equipment has been brought to this workshop. Research is underway to modernize production and attract new technologies based on the “Commercialization of Scientific Developments” program.
The visit aimed to determine further directions for the grant program. Issues regarding the production of promising products were discussed.
