At the State Academy of Choreography of Uzbekistan, a roundtable was held on “Moving to the Music of the East: National Spirit in Uzbek and Indian Dance”, organized to strengthen cultural ties between the two nations.
The event brought together well-known experts in choreography, teachers, and students. Doctor of Philology and Professor Khulkar Khamroyeva gave a detailed presentation on the shared aspects of Uzbek and Indian dance, the attitude of both peoples toward this art form, and the expression of national spirit through dance.
“Each nation’s dances are its history, language, heart, and hopes”, noted Ms. Khamroyeva. “A beautiful dance is not just movement. It carries deep spiritual meaning. Events that unite cultures teach the younger generation to respect national traditions and values”.
As part of the cultural event, academy students performed classical Indian dances, including “Bharatanatyam” and “Kathak”. They also presented a variety of Uzbek dance traditions, showcasing the distinctive choreographic styles of the Fergana, Khorezm, and Bukhara schools.
During the discussion, Professor Akhlaque Ahmad, Head of the Centre of Persian and Central Asian Studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University (India), highlighted the active development of cultural cooperation between Uzbekistan and India.
“I often visit Uzbekistan”, said Akhlaque Ahmad. “I was impressed by the dance performances showcased at the academy. The traditional dances of our peoples are an important element of cultural heritage, reflecting the spiritual connection between humans and the surrounding world”.
Participants unanimously agreed on the importance of preserving and promoting national dance arts and strengthening cooperation in this field.
