Tashkent hosts the Fifth Eurasian Pharmaceutical Summit, organized by the community of top managers of leading companies in the pharmaceutical sector Global Pharmaceutical Leaders’ Club with the support of the Center for Pharmaceutical Safety and the Pharmaceutical Industry Development Agency under the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Asklepiy Group, NikaPharm, AstraZeneca, IQVIA, ProximaResearch, Olainfarm, and STADA were the summit’s leading partners.

The event, with the participation of over 100 speakers, is held to discuss development trends in the state and commercial segment of the pharmaceutical markets in the countries of Central Asia, the Caucasus and Eastern Europe (Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Moldova, Belarus and Mongolia).

The program of the summit, which will be held in Tashkent from September 17 to 19, includes more than 20 sessions. The participants will discuss the strategies of pharmaceutical companies, the investment potential of markets, drug labeling, the introduction of digital technologies in the industry and other topics. Interviews with international experts, meetings with top managers of leading pharmaceutical companies and pharmacy chains, and roundtable discussions with regulators will also be organized.

Ms. Natalia Baeva, Director of the Global Pharmaceutical Leaders’ Club, addressed the event and wished the participants a productive discussion and a successful exchange of experiences. The moderator was Olga Makarova, Head of the Russia and CIS IQVIA Consulting Group.

Deputy Minister of Health Farrukh Sharipov, Director of the Pharmaceutical Industry Development Agency Abdulla Azizov, Director of the Center for Pharmaceutical Safety Alisher Temirov, and experts from Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Moldova, and Kyrgyzstan delivered speeches at the event.

In recent years, the world has been tested by unprecedented global challenges – from the pandemic to economic and geopolitical upheavals. These changes have underscored the vital role of healthcare as the cornerstone of society’s well-being. In this context, the achievements of Uzbekistan and the promising future of the medical and pharmaceutical industries deserve our attention.

As noted, in recent years, under the leadership of the Head of state, close attention has been paid to the development of healthcare in Uzbekistan. One of the key achievements was the modernization of more than 100 medical institutions across the country within the framework of state programs. This has significantly improved medical care, especially in remote regions.

In the first half of 2024, pharmaceutical production exceeded $180 million, 115 percent more than the previous year. Product exports increased fivefold, reaching new markets in France, Germany, the UAE, and Denmark. Foreign investment in the industry amounted to $27.5 million, 3.4 times more than in the previous period. These figures reflect the significant growth of the sector and its potential.

In 2024, Uzbekistan launched several educational programs to improve medical workers’ skills, including foreign internships in leading medical centers.

The participants also discussed issues of commercialization of domestic pharmaceutical products.

Particular attention is paid to primary healthcare, which is the basis of the entire healthcare system. The effectiveness of this level allows us to identify diseases at an early stage, prevent their development, and reduce the burden on highly specialized medical institutions. Educational programs for medical workers, including foreign internships, help adopt and implement international experience in the country.

A healthy lifestyle, proper nutrition, and physical activity are essential to chronic disease prevention. In Uzbekistan, the emphasis is on informing and educating citizens so that healthy habits become an integral part of society’s culture.

The speeches of the participants of the Fifth Eurasian Pharmaceutical Summit confirmed that Uzbekistan is at the forefront of healthcare and pharmaceuticals. Progress in modernizing medical infrastructure, introducing new technologies, and active international cooperation make the country one of the leaders in this field. Thanks to the support of professionals and enthusiasts, the country confidently looks to the future, preparing for new achievements and success. 

Following the event, the Eurasian Pharma Awards 2024 competition winners will be awarded. Last year, the OXYmed chain was recognized as the best in the Pharmacy Chain of the Year nomination.

The summit also includes visiting the Asklepiy Group distribution warehouse and the Nika Pharm pharmaceutical manufacturing plant.
