12:44 / 2021-09-04

As part of the 46th Annual Meetings of the Board of Governors of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), a roundtable discussion was held to discuss the current trends in the global and regional economy, the impact of COVID-19 on the economies of the IsDB member countries, the bank’s activities to support them in overcoming problems associated with the pandemic, as well as the IsDB strategy for the near future.

According to Uzbekistan MIFT, at the event, views were exchanged on the challenges and difficulties of an economic and social nature that the IsDB member countries faced in the past year. These include rising levels of poverty and growing inequality both within individual countries and at the intercountry and interregional levels.

The roundtable discussion became a platform for the formation of a common understanding of the key factors that determine the pace of further sustainable development in the post-COVID period, and mechanisms for solving the problems facing the governments of the IsDB member countries.

The Bank’s leadership announced that the IsDB will continue to consistently work to provide practical support to member countries in overcoming the consequences of the pandemic by investing in strengthening the healthcare system and developing socio-economic infrastructure. The main attention will be paid to ensuring access to COVID vaccines and mass vaccination of the population.
