Tashkent hosted a roundtable discussion on “Factors hindering investment: institutional constraints to foreign direct investment”.
The event was organized by the Senate Committee of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan on international relations, foreign economic relations, foreign investment and tourism within the framework of the USAID project on Competitiveness, Trade, and Jobs Activity in Central Asia (CTJ).
It was attended by members of the Committee, representatives of ministries and agencies, private sector, experts of international organizations, financial institutions, USAID projects in Uzbekistan, as well as media workers.
Issues of improving the legislative framework in this area, removing restrictions on the use of property, land use, ensuring transparency in consideration of commercial disputes were discussed at the event. Problems of limited opportunities for using financial resources, high interest rates on loans, insufficient development of appropriate infrastructure were also noted.
Views were also exchanged on the study of experience of advanced countries on inventory of agreements on protection of existing investments, anti-corruption. Foreign experts spoke about investment climate prevailing in Uzbekistan, problems in this area and their solutions.
