In Uzbekistan, priority attention is being given to the process of joining the World Trade Organization, and decisive steps are being taken in this direction.
Thanks to the efforts of the Head of State, the negotiation process has intensified over the past two years, and 5 meetings of the Working Group on Uzbekistan’s accession to the WTO have been held. To date, bilateral negotiations have been completed with more than 24 WTO members, including the United States, China, Japan, Türkiye, Brazil, and Saudi Arabia, on the conditions for importing goods and services from these countries to the domestic market.

The Commission of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, focusing on harmonizing legislation with World Trade Organization agreements, held a roundtable discussion on “Current issues of improving legislation in the process of Uzbekistan’s accession to the WTO”.
The role of legislative reforms in completing the process of Uzbekistan’s accession to the WTO, as well as the activities carried out in this direction, were discussed in detail at the event. Opinions and suggestions were expressed on strengthening cooperation between the legislative and negotiating groups, as well as on the introduction of effective coordination mechanisms.

As noted, in 2024, 24 regulatory documents, including 6 laws, were adopted in this direction. Based on them, amendments and additions have been made to 74 normative-legal acts, including 10 laws.
Following the discussions, an agreement was reached to strengthen cooperation in the context of the implementation of additional measures provided for within the framework of the activities of the Legislative Chamber and executive authorities.
