China National Silk Museum hosts an exhibition “Colorful Asia: Asian Costumes”.
The exhibition, organized in connection with the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, presents examples of the cultural heritage of China, Korea, Japan, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Bhutan, Laos, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, India, Pakistan, Iran, United Arab Emirates, Syria, Israel, Türkiye, Palestine.


“The exhibition is divided into sections “East Asia”, “South-East Asia”, “South Asia”, “Central Asia” and “Western Asia”, says the Chief Curator of Samarkand State Museum-Reserve Mahmudkhan Yunusov. – Traditional Asian art and clothing of the 18th-20th centuries are presented here. Employees of museums in Uzbekistan and Thailand were invited to the exhibition. From our country, the Samarkand State Museum-Reserve and the State Museum of Arts of Uzbekistan are participating with exhibits.
In the section dedicated to Central Asia, the main place is occupied by objects belonging to Uzbekistan. The country played a key role in trade on the Great Silk Road for almost two thousand years. That is why Uzbekistan adopted the best examples of culture from all countries on the Great Silk Road. As a result, its unique culture was formed, samples of which are stored in over 100 museums in Uzbekistan.


Twenty museum items from Uzbekistan were brought to the exhibition, including men’s and women’s chapans, shoes (makhsi), samples of embroidery, and jewelry. There are 16 items from the Samarkand State Museum-Reserve and four from the State Museum of Arts of Uzbekistan.
The exhibition will run until November 12.
