Representatives of Cotton Campaign global coalition will visit Uzbekistan on January 29 – February 6, 2019.

According to the Embassy of Uzbekistan in the United States, Cotton Campaign delegation included representatives of non-governmental human rights organizations Responsible Sourcing Network, Human Rights Watch, Solidarity Center, Uzbekistan – Germany Forum, as well as Central Asia Labour Rights Monitoring Mission. 

Members of the coalition will meet with the leadership of Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Labor, Agriculture, Justice, Investments and Foreign Trade, Textile Industry Association, Employers Confederation and Trade Unions Federation.

A meeting is also planned with the Chairman of the National Commission on Combating Human Trafficking and Forced Labor, Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, Tanzila Narbayeva.

It is expected that the results of 2019 cotton harvest and effectiveness of measures taken to prevent the use of forced labor, implementation of roadmaps aimed at eliminating factors that contribute to forced labor, as well as increasing interaction with civil society in this sphere will be discussed at the meetings. 

Members of the coalition will also attend the briefing by the International Labour Organization on preliminary results of monitoring the cotton harvest.
