As previously reported, Bukhara hosted a workshop devoted to resilient cultural heritage and sustainable tourism development, on August 13-17.

As previously reported, Bukhara hosted a workshop devoted to resilient cultural heritage and sustainable tourism development, on August 13-17.

The event was organized by the State Committee for Tourism Development of the Republic of Uzbekistan, UNWTO Silk Road Office and the World Bank.

The workshop was attended by employees of the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Construction, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the Academy of Sciences, khokimiyats, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the “Hunarmand” Fund of Uzbekistan. Experts of the World Bank, Ritsumeikan University (Japan) and the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) attended the event as trainers.

During the workshop, issues of disaster risk management in the field of cultural heritage, peculiarities of cultural heritage management in Uzbekistan, the role of central and local authorities in this area, the need to involve the private sector in preservation of cultural heritage and development of sustainable tourism were considered and discussed.

According to the State Committee for Tourism Development, the workshop participants visited cultural heritage sites in Bukhara, where they conducted trainings on development of plans for effective management of these objects, models for interaction with the private sector and local communities in this sphere.
