The online webinar on this theme was organized by the representative office of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation in Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.

It was attended by the heads of research centers of Central Asian countries, experts from the United States, Russia, Germany and others.

Participants discussed the issues of the impact of the pandemic on the socio-economic process in Central Asia, regional cooperation in combating it and overcoming its consequences. Views were exchanged on prospects for further interaction of the region’s countries with key partners, including Russia, China, the United States, as well as the EU.

First Deputy Director of the Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, A. Nematov, emphasized that the tendency towards regional rapprochement in Central Asia is a historically determined reality, and the intensification of regional cooperation meets the fundamental interests of Central Asian countries’ people, contributes to strengthening fraternal ties and realization of a huge economic and civilizational potential of Central Asia.

Following the webinar, a survey was conducted among all participants of the event, according to the results of which the vast majority of respondents supported the trend of increased cooperation in the region.
