A workshop for criminal judges has been organized at the Supreme Court in cooperation with the UNICEF Representative Office in Uzbekistan.
First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Court, Ikrom Muslimov, and UNICEF Deputy Representative in Uzbekistan, Geoffrey Ijumba, noted the importance of protecting people’s rights, especially those of minors.
Uzbekistan’s cooperation with UN institutions, in particular UNICEF, is aimed at providing comprehensive support to children. This international structure has a special role to play in creating reliable mechanisms to protect their rights and interests.

In recent years, the Supreme Court, in collaboration with UNICEF, has implemented bilateral measures addressing several current issues in this area. In particular, a special room has been set up in the Shaykhontokhur District Criminal Court building for interrogating minor victims and witnesses of crimes.
At the event, reports were made on release from punishment, alternatives to imprisonment, and restorative justice.
Additionally, options for expanding pre-trial and post-trial alternative measures for children in conflict with the law were explored. The participants exchanged views on best practices in this area.
