The Authorized Person of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights (Ombudsman) Feruza Eshmatova met with her Polish counterpart Marcin Wiącek during a working visit to Warsaw.
The parties exchanged views on monitoring visits within the framework of the National Preventive Mechanisms to closed institutions where persons with restricted freedom of movement are held.
The parties reached an agreement on strengthening cooperation.

It should be noted that in 1988, Poland was one of the first countries in Eastern Europe to establish an Ombudsman institution. The person holding this position is considered responsible for the protection of human rights and freedoms at the highest level, and his powers and duties are enshrined in the Constitution of Poland and the relevant law.
The Ombudsman is charged with the tasks of identifying facts of violations of civil rights and their prevention, monitoring compliance with laws, and developing new protection measures.
