08:55 / 2021-04-26

“A Muslim philosopher, well-versed in science, and a mentor to doctors”, Ibn Sina is described by Indonesia's CNN Indonesia.

Abu Ali al-Husayn ibn Abdallah ibn al-Hasan ibn al-Ali ibn Sina, known in the Western world as Avicenna, was a prominent philosopher and physician of the medieval Islamic world.

As it is noted, he showed himself as a child prodigy from a young age, was able to read Quran at the age of ten. By the age of 16, he was able to master enough medical knowledge that he was already able to apply in practice.

The journal also describes such works by Ibn Sina as “Al Qanoon Fil Tibb”, “Kitab al-Shifa” and “Kitab al-Maadin”.

“Al Qanoon Fil Tibb”, or the famous “The Canon of Medicine” was first translated by Gerard of Cremona in the 12th century. Since then, this work has gained almost unquestionable authority.

Opening the Britannica, you can learn that Ibn Sina is known not only in the field of medicine, but also as a great expert in alchemy.

The scientist also made observations in astronomy, detecting devices similar to a scale to improve the accuracy of his instruments. In fact, he edited the Almagest, adding images to illustrate parallax and developing Ptolemy’s geometric methods.
