Tashkent hosted High-Level Central Asian Dialogue on Climate Change and Resilience.
At the event, organized jointly with the UNDP, the GIZ, Uzhydromet, the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Agriculture and Water Resources, over a hundred delegates discussed current environmental threats, put forward specific proposals and initiatives.
It was noted that nine out of ten natural disasters are currently climate-related. In addition, climate change will impact local and regional economies as overexploitation and resource scarcity are predicted to affect key industries such as agriculture and energy.
Participants focused on improving regional dialogue and raising awareness of vulnerable sectors of the economy about climate change and resilience. The importance of strengthening climate-related measures for early warning and prevention at the public level in the transboundary regions of Central Asia was emphasized.
