On October 25, the Central Election Commission hosted a briefing with the participation of the mission of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States and observers from the CIS countries.

According to the head of the CIS observer mission, Sergey Lebedev, the elections were held in full compliance with the Constitution and the Election Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The competitiveness, openness and transparency of this important political process, as well as its compliance with the generally recognized principles of democratic elections were emphasized.

As noted, the next day after receiving the proposal to observe the elections in Uzbekistan, the members of the mission began observing the electoral process in the country via the Internet and the media. Members of the CIS observer mission visited all regions of Uzbekistan and concluded that the electoral process was based on international standards and norms. Polling stations were provided with all information materials, information about the candidates. This created additional opportunities for voters.

Journalists have repeatedly asked how this year’s elections differ from previous ones. The current presidential elections were held based on the new Election Code, to which several amendments were introduced. Another innovation – an accurate electronic voter list has been formed.

In previous elections, not only in Uzbekistan, but also in other countries, the determination of polling stations and registration caused significant inconvenience to voters. Such problems have been eliminated in the current elections. Each voter is assigned to the respective polling station. At the same time, technical aspects deserve special attention, the report says.
