CIS countries strengthen cooperation in the field of healthcare

A delegation led by the Minister of Health Asilbek Khudoyorov took part in the 38th meeting of the Council for Healthcare Cooperation of the Commonwealth of Independent States, held in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.

According to the Ministry of Health, Asilbek Khudoyorov delivered a report on the large-scale reforms being carried out in Uzbekistan to improve the system of primary healthcare and on the priority tasks for the future.

As part of the event, several bilateral meetings were also held. In particular, new projects aimed at enhancing primary healthcare and improving maternal and child health, to be implemented in Uzbekistan, were discussed with the WHO Regional Director for Europe Hans Kluge.

Furthermore, the Ministries of Health of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, together with the World Health Organization, reached an agreement to sign a trilateral cooperation memorandum on healthcare issues in the Aral Sea region.

The Minister also met with the Minister of Health and Social Protection of the Population of Tajikistan Jamoliddin Abdullozoda. At the meeting, the ministers discussed opportunities for expanding cooperation in the areas of sanitary and epidemiological surveillance, prevention of cardiovascular diseases and diabetes, as well as professional development of healthcare specialists.

In addition, during Asilbek Khudoyorov’s meeting with Deputy Minister of Health of the Russian Federation Oleg Salagai, special attention was given to strengthening collaboration between Russia’s scientific and medical centers and Uzbekistan’s leading healthcare institutions.

At the meeting with Kazakhstan’s Minister of Health Akmaral Alnazarova the parties agreed to organize the Kazakhstan Medicine Days and the Uzbekistan – Kazakhstan Forum, scheduled for October 13-17, and discussed expanding joint training programs and experience exchange.

The Uzbekistan delegation also visited several clinics and higher medical institutions in Dushanbe to familiarize themselves with their activities.

Following the forum, the CIS Executive Committee proposed holding the next meeting of the Council for Healthcare Cooperation in Uzbekistan.
