Tea is an integral part of the culture and daily life of the Uzbek people. In recent years, there has been an increase in demand for imported tea, as a result of which the range of its suppliers is expanding.
According to the National Statistics Committee, in January-June 2025, 15,553 tons of tea worth a total of $23.3 million were imported to Uzbekistan. This indicates a certain increase compared to the same period last year.
The leading suppliers of tea to Uzbekistan are China – 12,475 tons, Kenya – 659 tons, Iran – 538 tons, Kazakhstan – 468 tons, India – 382 tons, and 1,031 tons of tea were imported from other countries.
According to statistics, more than 80 percent of the tea imported to Uzbekistan comes from China. There are several reasons for this. Firstly, Chinese tea is affordable and in demand in Uzbekistan. Secondly, it is related to the convenience of logistics processes and trade relations.
Black tea is the most consumed beverage among the Uzbekistan population. Green tea is also widely popular, which is associated with the desire of citizens for a healthy lifestyle. Organic and specialty teas are increasingly appearing on the market.
The climatic features of the country do not allow tea to be grown on an industrial scale, so Uzbekistan’s dependence on imports of these products is very high.
