China and Uzbekistan: Common Aspirations and Development Prospects

Tashkent hosted an international roundtable discussion on “China and Uzbekistan: Common Aspirations and Development Prospects”.

The event, organized by the Committee on International Affairs and Interparliamentary Relations of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan and the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China, was attended by the First Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Chamber Akmal Saidov, Ambassador of China to Uzbekistan Yu Jun, deputies, members of the Senate, representatives of ministries and agencies, professors and teachers of higher education institutions, heads of Chinese companies in the country.

During the discussion, it was underscored that the two countries, under the guidance of their leaders, are actively expanding intergovernmental and interdepartmental cooperation. This is evidenced by the influx of new programs and projects, which are enriching practical cooperation.

The participants discussed the achievements and prospects of trade-economic and investment cooperation. In recent years, the volume of mutual trade has doubled and reached almost $14 billion.

In particular, the Director of the International Institute for Central Asia, Javlon Vakhabov, stressed the importance of establishing an all-weather comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries. Today’s event shows growing mutually beneficial cooperation, especially in the rapid development of trade-economic and investment ties.

The expert noted the need to diversify and increase Uzbek exports to China, highlighted the importance of cooperation in education, including increasing the number of Chinese teachers in Uzbekistan’s universities, and discussed the prospects for developing cooperation in the Central Asia—China format.
