Khiva hosts the international chess tournament Fide Women Candidate 2022 with a prize fund of 250 thousand euros.

World-class grandmasters Aleksandra Goryachkina, Kateryna Lagno, Alexandra Kosteniuk and Tan Zhongyi are taking part in the prestigious competition. The winner will get a chance to face the Chinese grandmaster Ju Wenjun, the current world champion.

At the event's official opening ceremony, the President of Uzbekistan Chess Federation Alisher Sadullayev and Deputy Hokim of Khorezm region spoke about the importance of this chess competition, which is held for the first time in Uzbekistan, and wished success to the participants of the tournament.

Meanwhile, the 1st International Al-Biruni Chess Tournament with a prize fund of $50,000 has kicked off.
