Chairperson of the Senate meets with the Ambassador of India

On December 10, Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbayeva has received the Ambassador of India to Uzbekistan Manish Prabhat.

The meeting has taken place on the eve of the virtual summit announced for December 11 between President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi.

According to the upper chamber of the Parliament, the parties exchanged views on the course of reforms in Uzbekistan, discussed the state and prospects for development of bilateral political, economic, cultural and humanitarian ties. Special attention was paid to the issues of inter-parliamentary interaction.

It was noted that thanks to the efforts of the leaders of the two countries, bilateral relations in recent years have reached a new level of strategic partnership.

Ambassador Manish Prabhat emphasized that the country is witnessing the process of democratization that create new opportunities for strengthening collaboration between India and Uzbekistan.

At the meeting, the situation related to the coronavirus pandemic and the measures being taken in both countries were also discussed. The Ambassador praised the timely steps taken by Uzbekistan in this direction, which contribute to minimizing the COVID-19 consequences.

The Indian side intends to invest a credit line worth $1 billion for the implementation of projects on road infrastructure, information and communication technologies, modernization of the sewerage system in the city of Namangan.

Two fundamental documents, an investment agreement and an agreement on preferential trade, are being developed. The Indian side is interested in opening a sea route for Uzbekistan through Afghanistan.

Cooperation between the two countries is also being established in the military sphere. Interest was expressed in the restoration of tourist and cultural exchanges between Uzbekistan and India. Cooperation in education was also noted.

The parties discussed the state and prospects for development of bilateral relations in the context of strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation.
