Preparations for the elections of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis and local Councils are actively underway.
On October 2, the CEC Press Center hosted a meeting with youth. The CEC Chairman Z.Nizomkhodjayev informed about the importance of innovations in electoral legislation and young people’s proportion among candidates for deputies. It was noted that the parliamentary elections would be held on October 27 in accordance with the renewed Constitution, in conditions of strong parliamentary and significant strengthening of the powers of local representative bodies. For the first time in Uzbekistan, the election of deputies to the Legislative Chamber will be based on a mixed electoral system.
The participants became familiar with holding mixed elections based on majority and proportional electoral systems.
According to the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Election Code, citizens have the right to vote from the age of 18. About 700,000 young people will exercise their right to vote for the first time in the upcoming elections. This requires further strengthening of propaganda among young people about the essence of electoral legislation. About 20 thousand young people demonstrate their political activity and participate in the activities of election commissions. Candidates for the Legislative Chamber must be 25, and candidates for local councils must be 21. This year, compared with the previous elections, there are significantly more young candidates: more than 3 thousand out of 29 thousand candidates are young people.
The participants were also informed about the launch of the “E-Saylov” information system, its advantages, and the stages of the election campaign. This system provides voters with all kinds of information, including detailed information about candidates for deputies and political party election programs.
Information was also provided on the activities of election commissions and their role in conducting elections at the highest level. The CEC Press Center’s activity was also discussed.
