CBU Coding Challenge 2025 kicks off in Tashkent
17:22 / 2025-11-15

On November 15-16, Tashkent will host the CBU Coding Challenge 2025, organized by the Central Bank of Uzbekistan in cooperation with the Boston Consulting Group (BCG).

The event aims to test algorithms that determine the future of the country’s financial system.

As part of the competition, participants will develop new models within 48 hours to estimate a borrower’s default probability. This process is aimed not only at solving a technical problem, but also at analyzing a person’s financial behavior, their ability to repay debt, and the level of risk.

For the first time, young programmers gain open access to a scoring system that is usually considered “closed”, analyze it, and propose their solutions.

In a short period, 629 applications were submitted to the competition. After the qualifying stage, 154 participants remain, who, as part of 40 teams, actively demonstrate their skills in developing scoring models.

On the first day, the teams became acquainted with the task and technical requirements and received consultations from BCG and IT Park specialists. The main stage – preparing a single dataset from the available information and analyzing and building a model to predict the probability of default – will begin on the second day.

Creating a scoring model is not just about writing code. This is the process of converting the human factor into mathematical formulas. It is essential to properly assess financial risks and create a basis for making thousands of decisions in the banking system.

The winners will be awarded with cash prizes, as well as the opportunity to complete an internship at the Central Bank and then be selected for specialist positions. In this regard, the competition is a tool for integrating young professionals into the financial sector.

This 48-hour intellectual marathon is a unique platform for innovation, an open laboratory for generating new ideas, and a promising opportunity for a new generation of professionals in the financial sector.
