The session considered the issue of registration of candidates for President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.The Central Electoral Commission examined documents submitted by political parties and adopted a resolution on the registration of candidates for President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Sarvar Sadullayevich Otamuratov from the Milliy Tiklanish Democratic Party of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Miromonovich Mirziyoyev from the movement of entrepreneurs and businessmen – the Uzbekistan Liberal-Democratic Party, Hatamjon Abdurahmonovich Ketmonov from the Uzbekistan People’s Democratic Party and Nariman Majitovich Umarov from the Adolat Social Democratic Party of Uzbekistan are registered as candidates for President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
In accordance with Article 28 of the law “On elections of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan”, from the day of registration of candidates for President of the Republic of Uzbekistan by the Central Electoral Commission, their electoral campaigning begins.
In connection with this, the session considered the issue of electoral campaigning, and a resolution was adopted.
At the same day’s session of the Central Electoral Commission, there was discussion of issues of registration of authorised representatives of the candidates for President of the Republic of Uzbekistan and also other issues relating to the powers of the commission, on which appropriate resolutions were adopted.

At the republican press centre for coverage of the elections of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, an online briefing took place for representatives of domestic and foreign mass media.
The chairman of the Central Electoral Commission, M.Abdusalomov, informed them about the results of the Central Electoral Commission’s session and about the pace of preparation for the elections of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
It has been said that the election campaign is being conducted in complete conformity with the country’s electoral legislation and the main events programme approved by the Central Electoral Commission for the elections of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
In accordance with Article 28 of the law “On elections of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan”, electoral campaigning begins from the day of registration of candidates for President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
In accordance with the law, candidates are provided with guaranteed equal rights to use mass media following a procedure established by the Central Electoral Commission.
Specifically, taking into account proposals from political parties, in order for each candidate for President of the Republic of Uzbekistan to explain the main points of election programmes to voters, they are given 638 minutes of free air time each on the “Ozbekiston” and “Yoshlar” television and radio channels of the National Tele-radio Company of Uzbekistan, 206 minutes each on 12 local television and radio channels of the National Tele-radio Company of Uzbekistan and 286 minutes each on the “Toshkent” television and radio channel.
In the Khalq Sozi, Narodnoye Slovo and Pravda Vostoka newpapers, six columns each, in the Ovozi Tojik and Nurly Zhol newspapers, 5 columns each and in 30 local newspapers 55.5 columns in all of free print space are provided for each candidate. In the republic’s regions, each candidate is given 642 external advertising boards, special screen displays and billboards as well as an opportunity to use 36 electronic monitors in the republic for the free placement of campaign videos.
Candidates for President of the Republic of Uzbekistan independently decide on types, forms and methods of electoral campaigning and its content on mass media.
At the same time, the principle of creating equal conditions for the duration of electoral campaigning does not apply to the party press which has the right to publish campaign adverts in any volume.
It was said the Central Electoral Commission had set out specific measures for the conduct of electoral campaigning in complete conformity with the country’s legislation.
During the briefing, its participants were also familiarized with preparatory work carried out for the elections. 9378 polling stations, including 44 at Uzbekistan’s representative offices in foreign states, were established for the elections. The polling stations have been provided with all the necessary means of communication, computer and office equipment and legal literature. In specially designated places, voting booths and ballot boxes were put.
District electoral commissions formed the composition of precinct electoral commission, and more than 98 thousand people were assigned there. Of them 69 per cent directly participated in the work of electoral commissions before, and so have a certain amount of experience in this area. Women account for 47.4 per cent of the members of the precinct electoral commissions and for 26.7 per cent of the number of precinct electoral commission chairpersons.
It was noted during the briefing that special attention was being paid to ensuring the openness and transparency of the election campaign and to creating all the necessary conditions for mass media’s wide access to information relating to the preparation and conduct of the elections.
The Central Electoral Commission accredited more than 500 representatives of domestic and foreign mass media, and the district electoral commissions accredited about 560 local journalists.
